Chapter 6:
NextGen Creators

Project Overview

Mission Statement:

NextGen Creators empowers youth in marginalized communities by providing access to cutting-edge technology and education. The program bridges gaps in traditional curriculums, introducing students to blockchain, NFTs, and other digital tools to prepare them for future careers and education in the tech industry.

Project Description:

As the world shifted into the tech era during the pandemic, I saw a critical need to launch programs in marginalized communities that are often left out of advancements and miss out on the opportunities of the future. Technology is a resource for all, and NextGen Creators was designed to ensure our communities have access to the tools and knowledge needed to thrive in this rapidly changing world.

From 2021 to 2023, NextGen Creators supported decentralization within marginalized communities by integrating artists, musicians, small businesses, and community centers into a cohesive tech education framework. I worked closely with Elliot Braem, a skilled developer whose experience includes working with Northern Trust, NEAR Protocol, and Aditum. Elliot brought expertise in blockchain, React, and emerging technologies, helping to shape strategies for introducing blockchain concepts, proper information collection, and development engagement tactics. Students, ranging from children ages 10 and up to high school freshmen and sophomores, created NFTs using digital art apps. Collaborations on digital art served as a starting point for conversations around blockchain, ownership, and creativity.
